OVERVIEW and BACKGROUND
Nuclei in the Cosmos is the foremost bi-annual conference in nuclear astrophysics, spanning nuclear physics, astrophysics, astronomy, cosmo-chemistry, and other related fields that started from Wien in Austria in 1990. This conference aims to survey the recent achievements and exchange expertise and progress in this interdisciplinary field, and it promotes mutual understanding and collaboration over the fields fundamental to solve a range of open questions, from the origin of the elements to stellar, galactic and cosmic evolution.
NIC series of symposia are regarded as one of the relevant international conferences in nuclear physics and astrophysics. In the previous NIC-XIII Symposium held in July 2014 at Debrecen, Hungary, International Advisory Committee decided that the next meeting (NIC-XIV 2016) is to be hosted jointly by the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) and RIKEN Nishina Center.
The subjects to be discussed in NIC-XIV 2016 Symposium will include:
- Big-Bang Cosmology, Nucleosynthesis, Dark Matter, and Dark Energy
- First Generations of Stars and Galactic Chemo-Dynamical Evolution
- Stellar Evolution and Hydrostatic Nuclear Burning Processes
- Explosive Nucleosynthesis in Stars
- Supernovae, Gamma-Ray Bursts and Mergers
- Novae and X-Ray Bursts
- Neutron Stars and Hadron Physics
- Meteoritic Abundances, Interstellar Gas and Dust Astronomy
- X- and γ-Ray Astronomy and Cosmic Ray Astrophysics
- Neutrino Astrophysics and Weak Processes
- Radioactive Nuclei Far From Stability
- Nuclear Theory in Astrophysics
- Nuclear Experiments in Astrophysics
- Nuclear Data and Astrophysics
- New Facilities in Nuclear Astrophysics and Astronomy
The symposium will take place at the Main Hall at Toki Messe, Niigata Convention Center, which is located at the mouth of Shinano-river, in the heart of Niigata City.
